Seaway Windows, located in Erie, PA was established in 1959. The company manufactures and designs products that minimize maintenance and improve a home’s appearance, energy efficiency, and resale value. Seaway prides itself in being the only manufacture that sells windows that are made in the local community. They are known for providing traditional hard work, strong craftsmanship, and engineering expertise to their customers. The company continues to innovate their products, introducing cutting edge window door and patio room designs, while providing custom design options. With strong values and a continuous drive for innovation, Seaway Windows has become a nationally recognized manufacturer of high quality windows, doors, and sunrooms.
Seaway Windows has distinguished itself as a huge competitor in the windows, siding, and sunroom distribution industry. Their unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and innovation has led to progressive success within the business, leading to increased interest within their cliental. With Seaway’s continuous growth it was important for the business to implement an efficient system to manage the distribution process. An initial requirement of the company was updating their existing technology to gain new features that would increase the reliability and flexibility of their server infrastructure.
Seaway wanted to implement an accounting solution that would be easily integrated within the window manufacturing industry specific software, Fenevision. The company wanted to implement a solution that provided enhanced management of financial and reporting data within their business, from a trusted partner that would provide any assistance/training throughout the process. With a need to implement a new ERP system Seaway looked to Distributed Network Software, LLC (DNS) to provide a solution.
After a thorough review of Seaway’s s process DNS, recommended Microsoft Dynamics GP, an ERP Package that met all of their needs. The package provides Seaway with the proper tools and framework to manage their activities, while increasing operational efficiencies within their business. Seaway’s ERP system was configured in a virtual environment using Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. The ERP system workload was then consolidated to fit onto a single physical server. Multiple guest OS were installed into a virtual machine to facilitate the solution implementation. This provided Seaway with new features to manage their infrastructure including a relational database management system tool, SQL, as well as a web and a test/development server.
After the initial hardware was designed DNS incorporated Microsoft Dynamics GP as Seaway’s software solution. Microsoft’s integration tool, Integration Manager is used on a daily basis to transfer FeneVision’s processing data into Dynamic GP’s receivables and payables management. The detailed window specifications related to energy efficiency, materials, and size are stored in FeneVision, while GP is used for accounting control. The integration between the two pieces of software provided Seaway with a fully functional ERP system, allowing them to manage all aspects of the window manufacturing business from raw materials to receipt of payments.
To fulfill Seaway’s business needs DNS assisted the client in modifying standard GP reports, creating SSRS reports, and managing their financial statements. The clients were using multiple preprinted forms which needed to be formatted within GP, and were done so by using Report Writer. SSRS reports were also created and implemented using Visual Studio, granting the company access to multiple data sources, with the ability to develop tailored reports. Financial reports were configured in Microsoft’s FRx software, providing Seaway with their monthly financial statements, and granting them immediate control of the reporting process.
To ensure that the client was proficient in the ERP system, DNS provided ongoing assistance. This included informing Seaway’s team on how to properly manage costs and analyze data by educating them on the financial modules; GL, AP, and AR. The staff was informed on how to manage the proper procedures at the end of each Fiscal Year-End and Month-End period. DNS continues to provide support with their expertise in managing Seaway’s solution to validate that all operations are running smoothly and cost effectively.
The Microsoft Dynamics GP updated Seaway’s previous software program and afforded the business with new resources and features that provided a secure infrastructure with enhanced management. The integration of FeneVision to Dynamics GP provided Seaway Windows with the ability to manage all facets of manufacturing integration within a full feature financial management ERP package. DNS assisted Seaway in modifying reports specific to their business needs, providing them with financial features and tools to manage and control all related data and business processes.
Seaway Windows is equipped with a solution from a local expert and partner, DNS, who is prepared and qualified to provide training and support to ensure Seaway is using the solution to its full advantage. With the ERP system installed, Seaway Windows acquired web resources, management enhancements, and an integrated solution that provides the company with a platform for a dynamic and efficiently managed data center to control the window manufacturing business.
